Technology Strategy & Roadmap for Business Growth.

Technology investments often go wrong at the decision stage, not during delivery. Teams can build what was asked for instead of what the business actually needs, in the wrong order and often all at once. A strategic technology roadmap brings clarity to what to build, improve or buy, while setting the right order and identifying what can wait.

Does this sound familiar?

This is usually the moment businesses come to us.

  • A budget has been approved, and several technology projects are competing for it.
  • Different departments each want their own system, and nobody is holding the whole technology picture.
  • You are weighing whether to buy software, build custom software, or improve what you already have.
  • A previous technology project overran, and you would rather not repeat the experience.
  • A sizeable technology quotation is about to be signed and you would like the technology strategy and plan reviewed first.

A technology roadmap costs very little compared with the price of building the wrong thing. It is often the quickest way to bring a room of differing opinions to a shared, practical decision.

How we go about it

From many opinions to one clear technology strategy.

Usually one to three weeks, depending on how many colleagues we should speak with.

01

Understand

How the business earns, what the growth plan looks like, and what the present systems cost in money and in time.

02

Map

Every system, connection and manual workaround set out in one picture, including the spreadsheets that rarely get mentioned.

03

Decide

Build, buy or improve for each part, with the reasoning written down so the decision holds after the meeting ends.

04

Sequence

A practical, phased technology roadmap showing what repays soonest, what depends on what, and what may comfortably wait a year.

What you get

A plan your own team could take forward.

  • A single map of your current systems, connections and manual steps.
  • A build, buy or improve recommendation for each part, with our reasoning.
  • A phased technology roadmap with an indication of effort for each phase.
  • Risks described plainly, including where a supplier arrangement may limit you later.
  • A short summary written for your board rather than for engineers.

Well suited to you if

  • You are planning meaningful investment over the next six to eighteen months.
  • Several systems need to work together and presently do not.
  • You would like a strategic technology plan that remains useful even if suppliers change.

Perhaps not, if

  • You need a single website built and nothing further — Build would serve you better.
  • The technology decision is already settled and only delivery remains.
In practice

Three systems, one sensible order.

A trading business wished to commission a customer portal, a new website and an internal dashboard at the same time, from three suppliers. Mapping the work showed that the portal depended on information that was not yet reliable, and that the dashboard largely duplicated a report the portal would produce in any case.

What changed: The dashboard was set aside, the data work moved first, and the portal was delivered in a single phase rather than stalling across three.

Questions

A few questions you may have.

The Business & Digital Health Check and a Second Opinion are free.Technology strategy, AI readiness and transformation work are paid engagements, quoted as a fixed piece of work once we know the scope. There is no hourly billing.

Check your business health ↗
Is this a paid engagement?

Yes. It is quoted as a fixed piece of work once we know how many systems and colleagues are involved, and there is no hourly billing.

Must we build it with you afterwards?

Not at all. The technology roadmap belongs to you, and you are most welcome to take it to your in-house team or another supplier.

How much of our time will it require?

Usually a kick-off session, a few short conversations with the people who do the work, and one review session at the end.

What if we disagree with the recommendation?

We would welcome that. The reasoning is written down precisely so it can be discussed, and it is far better to have that conversation before the building begins.
